My 8 Step Evening Routine Schedule That Can Change Everything

Whether you are an adult, a mom with babies, or a school going kid, your evening routine ensures winding down your nervous system and preparing for rest.

What I find as a lifestyle expert, your evening schedule should be divided into three key phases:

  • the transition phase and household reset;
  • the wind-down hour; and
  • the final sleep window.

Let’s jump to my cozy evenings routine schedule!

1. Shutting Down My Work and Prioritising My Tomorrow

Why are my evenings refreshing and cozy? This is all about prioritizing tomorrow by closing my work on time around 6-7:00 PM. This provides a signal of break to my mind. I left with a lot of time to do my household work and enjoy a lot more fun activities before sleep. You can also shut down your work until the next morning. You will find it relaxing and enjoyable.

2. Eating a Light Dinner and Physical Activity

A healthy routine follows a healthy eating habit and physical activity. I eat a light dinner around 7:00 to 7:30 PM. My dinner includes a balanced diet plan for getting all required nutrients and minerals. Following dinner time, I prioritize short and easy walks. This benefits my digestive system to digest and utilize provided nutrients before sleep. You can follow another easy and light activity.

3. Preparation for tomorrow

I always look for ways to prepare for tomorrow morning to avoid morning rush and confusions. I usually pack my bags, lay out clothes, and tidy up my living areas aiming to wake up in a clean environment. Additionally, it provides me confidence and motivates me for refreshing mornings and enhancing my physical performance.

4. The Winding-down Hour Without Screens

I limit my screentime at my evening hours while preparing for my sleep routine. Turning off my phones and televisions protects my mind to avoid natural melatonin production. Instead, I look for other ways to make my evening routine profitable.

5. Practicing my Body Self-care

Brushing my teeth before sleep and washing my face as a skin-care routine is my normal habit that I follow every day. You can add other body care options. This is a crucial step to build a better bedtime routine for adults.

6. Writing Journal and Reading Productive Books

Writing a journal is a great way to empty your mind of lingering worries. I jot down all the things that happened to me that day. This provides a breathing space for me to get rid of worries and anxiety. Jot down your thoughts. This habit is also helpful to reflect on your daily actions, behavior and pave the way for repenting options that improves your character. Further, reading a book provides you with a lot of new ideas to reflect on and this is a good time to study something new.

7. Setting My Environment and Reducing Light

Next, at around 9:00 PM, I dim my room’s lights, and cool down my bedroom environment to a comfortable space for sleep. 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit is advisable for you for a comfortable sleep. I consider this ideal for me. You can adapt according to your body’s response. Already, I have reduced my screentime by putting my phone out of the room.

8. The Final Sleep Time

At around 10:00 PM, I get into my bed with minimum stress and workload. This is the time when a refreshing sleep begins that spans around 7 to 9 hours a day. This sleep duration is very effective to energize my body, mind and soul as well as to keep me grounded by improving my smile and mood. The right hours of sleep determine your mood the next day. Thus, focus on your peaceful sleep daily.

My morning routine starts at around 5:00 PM. I do not feel rushed to my office, because I have reduced many morning tasks beforehand in my evening routine.
